A Dog’s Love

February, the month of love has arrived. We would like to talk about a special kind of love, a dog’s love. A dog’s love is more than just a nudge of a wet nose, wag of a furry tail, or a big slobbery kiss. It is the most unconditional, loyal, and forgiving love a human will experience.

Dogs and humans have a very special relationship, where dogs have actually hijacked the human oxytocin bonding pathway that is normally reserved for our babies.” Bender, K. 2016, October 27., Dogs Mentally Understand How Much We Love Them.

Why is a dog’s love so special?

If you have a dog, you already know the happiness they provide greeting you after a long day. The comfort and camaraderie they offer at any given moment is priceless. A man or woman’s best friend, your first “child” and most likely the furriest member of the family, they find their way into our hearts and paw at our heartstrings. According to Dr. Brian Hare whose dedicated his life to canine cognition, “Dogs and humans have a very special relationship, where dogs have actually hijacked the human oxytocin bonding pathway that is normally reserved for our babies,” (Bender, K. 2016, October 27., Dogs Mentally Understand How Much We Love Them). When you and your dog lock eyes, play tug of war, or enjoy an evening stroll, your both experiencing a boost in oxytocin levels, a hormone associated with, you guessed it, love!

Our client Lindsey Moore recently had her dog Molly in our studio for professional pet portraits. She states, “A dog’s love is so special because it is given so freely and abundantly.” Just look at the bond they share!

Renee Kubly, another recent pet client who scheduled a location session with her pup states, “The specialty of a dog’s love has nothing to do with words but the way they touch your heart and soul.” She loves the bond she shares with all her dogs and life’s moment they share together as well. We were so happy to capture some very special moments of Renee & her adorable dog Katie! You can feel the love and companionship they share!

Why have your pet professionally photographed?

We believe pet portraits are just as important as any other type of portraiture. Dogs come into our lives for such a short amount of time, but to dogs we are their entire lives. They fill a place in our hearts and provide a love that is unlike any other we will experience. Capturing not only your pup’s personality but also the bond formed between a dog and their human is a memory our hearts can hold onto forever.

Renee touches on this by stating, “Pictures capture the love and kindness one shares and shared in time. The eyes you saw each and everyday that captured your heart and soul, the beautiful soft coat that glistens in the sun, that gentle paw that asked you for so many things… and most of all the ability to hold on to that memory through the looking glass that only you two shared.”
